The Atelier
Four chairs, no hurry
The room, the people in it, and twelve sets of nails photographed one at a time — because that is how you look at them.
It started as an evening service
Maison Noir opened in 2019 with two chairs and one rule: the last appointment of the day would never be rushed. Word travelled, mostly among people who work late and had given up on being seen at seven in the evening.
There are four chairs now, and the rule has not changed. We take one guest per artist, we do not overlap bookings, and we finish when the hand is finished. If that means we see fewer people in a week, that is the arithmetic we chose.
The room
Dark on purpose
Low light, warm lamps at each station, and nothing on the walls that needs looking at. The brightest thing in the room should be the hand under the lamp.
Twelve, one at a time
Every set below was done in this room. Use the arrows, the arrow keys, or swipe.
Almond, short, buffed bare. The house shape.
Four artists, one bench
Structure first
Everyone here builds an apex before they think about colour. A set that is shaped right survives four weeks of a real life; a set that is only painted right survives the walk to the car.
We shape to your hand
Bring a photograph by all means, but expect us to adjust it. Length and curve are decided by your nail bed and what you do all day, not by the reference.
Everything is single-use or autoclaved
Files, buffers and wood sticks go in the bin in front of you. Metal implements come out of a sealed pouch. Ask to see it and we will show you.
Appointments
Bring us a hand
Tell us roughly what you want and we will tell you honestly whether your nails will hold it. That conversation is free and takes two minutes.
